Maker Interview

What is your inspiration?

The old masters because were revolutionary, transforming wood into instruments that have lasted for hundreds of years. Their work was so relevant that contemporary makers still maintain the same patterns. I am committed to honoring each one of them and each tree used in the violin making process. By doing it, I fill my purpose of helping musicians to achieve their goals.

Why your instruments are so special?

Firstly, I believe that most of my instruments' qualities come from my passion and continuous learning on better ways to improve the instruments, such as searching for the best quality materials and technologies. In my opinion, they complement the classical Italian violin making tradition.

Secondly, my experience with instruments' restoration and setups allowed me to try new techniques and systems while acquiring the skills needed to improve the quality of my violins. Also, my musical background allowed me to educate my ears for a better making and sound setup.

Beyond that, I have always looked forward to delivering my very best, carefully listening to my client's requests and feedback in pursuit of expanding my violin making knowledge.

Why did you start making instruments?

Transforming wood into something has always fascinated me. Since I was a child, my parents have always encouraged me to play with wood and give them a new life by making little toys or artistic gifts.

After all, the privilege of being an apprentice from a young age at my family's workshop allowed me to learn more about the vast universe of violin making and embrace it as my passion. Having the opportunity to grow surrounded by inspiration and the right tools facilitated my career choice.

The best part of growing up and learning at my family's workshop is the certainty that together, we can enhance the art of violin making!

I feel really privileged getting to know Gaian's excellent violin, which simply sounds great, being both physically and in terms of sonority in the grand tradition of a long and illustrious line of Cremonese violins.
