Maker BackgroundCorrado Belli started the Violin Making school in Cremona in 1974, at the age of 14, under the guidance of Maestro Giovanni Battista Morassi, who clearly had a deep influence in his first works. In 1978, right after finishing the school, Belli opened his own workshop in Cremona. After his 40 years of experience as a violin maker, Corrado Belli accomplished over 240 instruments, with high-level quality crafting.
In 1988, only ten years after opening his shop, Corrado Belli won the silver medal at the 5th Antonio Stradivari International Violin making competition in Cremona, with a viola.
Belli works with copies of the original moulds, templates and drawns by Stradivari that are kept by the Violin Museum in Cremona. His instruments are not meant to be copies of antique instruments, but contemporary interpretations of these masterpieces, with the traditional new look, very characteristic of the Cremonese instruments. His violins are finished with a beatifully transparent orange varnish, over a deep golden-yellow ground colour.
Based on instruments by the great Italian makers, such as Stradivari, Guarneri, Bergonzi, and Guadagnini, Belli developed his own character in each of his instruments, crafted with the highest Cremonese standards, from the wood selected to the varnishing and finishing.
