Maker Background

After finishing his artistic studies, he attended the civic school of violin making in Milan, graduating in 1990 under the guidance of Maestro Luca Primon.

He started personal research on the models of Milanese lutherie of the 20th century - Gaetano Sgarabotto, Giuseppe Ornati, Ferdinando Garimberti but with a particular eye on everything that is summed up in the Classical violin making of A. Stradivari. He is also passionate about creating quartets, looking for the harmony of the shapes and the choice of woods that contribute to creating a "unicum" of sound.

For two years, he lived in Madrid. He had the opportunity to closely observe the beautiful and unique decorated instruments of the A. Stradivari quartet preserved in the Spanish capital's royal palace.

Maker Interview

Where your instruments are currently being played?

Many of my instruments have arrived in the hands of excellent foreign musicians performing in the most prestigious orchestras worldwide. At present, I can count 150 instruments made, among which there are 35 cellos and 20 violas.

Why did you start making instruments?

An exhibition of contemporary instruments at the age of 15 aroused in me the desire to be able to make acoustic musical instruments.

Why are your instruments so special?

The instruments I make always have a name inside them that refers to the "voice" that name produced during its mortal life and that will continue to produce it forever during the "new life" of the instrument.

What is your inspiration?

The search for imitating the human voice among the different sizes of stringed instruments: Soprano/violin; contralto/viola; tenore/cello; bass/double bass has always fascinated and stimulated me in my research.
