Violin Maker
Diego Tajè

Cremona, Italy

I am inspired by the classic Stradivari, Guarneri, and Amati models. However, I have created models inspired by models of modern authors such as Garimberti. The instruments generally have a slight antiquing; alternatively, the finishing and varnish are "as new". I participated in competitions organized by Italian Conservatories of Music in 2014 and 2018. On 3 occasions, my instruments were chosen and purchased by the Conservatories of Bolzano and Novara.Read more

Maker Background

Diego Tajè was born in Cremona in 1966. He became fascinated by the art of violin making already in his youth. Therefore, he regularly frequented several violin makers' ateliers, watching the masters at work. He often went to the Civic Museum of Cremona to admire the beautiful masterpieces of the famous violin makers. After University Studies, he achieved the status of Doctor Agronomist. He worked for more than ten years in consulting, while his interest in violin making was increasing year after year. He decided to practice violin making with the crucial support of the following master violin makers: first, he went to Massimo Negroni shop’s and then to Bissolotti and his Son’s. He also succeeded in being admitted directly to the 3rd of a five-year course at the worldwide well-known international violin making school in Cremona (IPIALL A. Stradivari ).
He mostly uses alcool-base varnish, the color varies from amber to red-orange on a golden base, but he has used oil-base varnish as well. In 2005 he proposed Cremona's Municipality to implement the Varnish Museum basing the project on the book, “Farmacopea Augustana 1734”, found in an ancient pharmacy in Cremona. Since 2007 in the Natural Sciences Museum of Cremona, you can visit the room where you can find the most used varnish components with the description by Maestro Massimo Negroni.
